Apple is reportedly working on a headset, known as Vision Pro, that can track data related to mental health. This includes analyzing facial expressions to identify mood disorders such as anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder. The company is also said to be considering using the headset’s eye-tracking software to gather further data on emotional displays in patients.

The potential treatment aspect of the Vision Pro involves displaying sounds and images to evoke positive emotions and improve mood. This isn’t the first time rumors have circulated about Apple’s interest in mental health tracking, and it has been suggested that the iPhone could also provide insights into a person’s temperament through data from various sensors, such as the keyboard, cameras, and audio sensors for tracking facial expression, sleep patterns, and typing speed. Despite these discussions, CEO Tim Cook expressed his hope that the Vision Pro would have a transformative impact on AR/VR technology, comparing its potential to the impact the Mac had on computing and the iPhone had on cell phones.
